Responsible Sourcing

SUPPLY CHAIN & CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT

Monier works hard to engage our Supply Chain & Customers within the scope of responsible sourcing and we continue to work to ensure the percentage of materials from ISO 14001 accredited suppliers increases year on year.

RAW MATERIALS

Our concrete, clay and Cambrian products are manufactured from raw materials that are over 80% (by volume) sourced from suppliers operating to the ISO 14001 environmental management standard. Redland is working with its supply chain to increase these percentages.

LOGISTICS

We believe that a full range of tile products should be manufactured as locally as possible to centres of demand. Our 7 plants and 5 depots in the UK dramatically reduce the amount of transportation of products around the country, thereby reducing congestion and pollution.

  • Sourcing responsibly to ensure the supply chain for all our plants operates within an audited environmental management system framework
  • Our haulier sees the use of biofuel as a major step forward in reducing their carbon footprint, and currently have 750 of their 8,000 vehicles running on a 50:50 standard diesel to biofuels mix

PACKAGING, CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT

  • Redland was the first roof tile manufacturer to introduce a pallet returns scheme whereby our customers are encouraged to return the wooden pallets on which our products are delivered. These pallets are then reused for future product packaging. We currently reuse over 100,000 pallets per year.

Following the completion of a new BMI Icopal flat roofing training area, and the refurbishment of the existing BMI Redland pitched training facility, BMI’s National Training Centre is now able to offer contractors, merchants and students an extensive range of both pitched and flat roof courses at the one location. This makes BMI the only UK roofing manufacturer able to offer training in both disciplines and at the one site.
